FUNKY MUNKY SCRAMBLE CAMP – August 1, 2025 – (Scrambling, duh!)

Why this level? We have to think about everyone enrolled. Wrestlers who are not ready for the level of technique offered here will negatively impact the experience of those who are by slowing the camp down.  Additionally the camp will not benefit them much as they will struggle to keep up with the level of instruction.

Despite what some believe, scrambling is not just rolling around. There is a method to the chaos and techniques that follow progressions toward improving positioning and eventually scoring. Coach Marcus was lucky enough to wrestle with Ben Askren (the Funk Legend) and his brother Max, and now he wants to share his knowledge these positions with the best wrestlers in the area.

Askren Rules for Scrambling:

• FORCE the scramble, do not be forced into a scramble.
• Scramble to score, do not scramble to defend.
• Always continue to improve your position.
• Use solid basics to make your scrambling easier.
• Successfully complete your scramble many times in practice before ever trying it in a match.
• Always keep a beginner’s mind.
